Parliamentary elections began in Vanuatu

In Vanuatu, parliamentary elections began on 19 March at 07:30 local time. More than 270,000 citizens of the Republic will be able to vote at 350 polling stations opened in all provinces during the day. There are 240 candidates from 17 parties, including 17 women, for 52 parliamentary mandates. According to official data, 278,877 citizens with the right to vote are on the voter lists. Voting will end at 4:30 p.m. local time. In the previous Parliament, none of the parties participating in the elections has more than six mandates. The new composition of Parliament will have to choose a Prime Minister and form a Government. We remind that Vanuatu is among the countries that after the aggression of Georgia in 2008 recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
