OneWeb sends batch of satellites to Baikonur for next launch


A package of 34 telecommunications satellites was sent to Baikonur from a plant in Florida on February 24, a OneWeb spokesman told TASS. Baikonur specialists will receive telecommunications satellites of the British company on February 25. The launch is scheduled for the second half of March. Recall, the company OneWeb forms a group of orbital satellites to provide broadband access services to the Internet. The OneWeb contract with the Arianespace launch operator provides for 20 launches using Russian Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicles and one launch with the Ariane 6 carrier being developed by the European Space Agency. The first test launch of a package of six OneWeb satellites took place in February 2019. On 7 February 2020, a Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with a package of 34 satellites was launched from Baikonur. Packages of 34 satellites will also be used during subsequent launches from the Baikonur and Kuru launch sites in French Guinea. Some launches will be made from the Russian Vostochny launch site, with 36 satellites being launched into orbit at each launch due to its location.
