Mongolian President demands resignation of CEC head

In Mongolia, on June 30, the first session of the new parliament was held. There were cases when previous members of the Great State Khural abused their powers, received huge loans through the Fund for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises, which caused a wave of popular outrage. The names of deputies appeared in scandals, thereby lawmakers lost the confidence of the people. Against 27 of the 606 candidates who fought for deputy seats in the last election, criminal and administrative cases were instituted. But the CEC did not fulfill its duties properly, issued them certificates. Due to the negligence of the CEC, 6 candidates were arrested after receiving the right to nominate by court decision, Haltmaagiin Battulga said. According to him, the Central Election Committee did not take any measures and did not comment on the situation, thereby making a serious mistake. The president believes that the head of the CEC should resign. The elections showed that the CEC should not continue to work further as it worked earlier. The CEC does not give official comments on controversial issues during the election campaign and after the election, which raises suspicion of dishonesty of the elections. Therefore, I demand that the CEC urgently submit an application and resign, the President of Mongolia said. Recall, as previously reported by the news agency, during the election campaign, 6 candidates were arrested in parliament. Among them was the former Prime Minister of Mongolia Zhargaltulgyn Erdenebat. Following the election results, he was elected, but is still in jail.
