Senators demanded to stop the US withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty
A group of US Democratic senators demanded that the United States stop withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty in an address addressed to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. This is stated in a message on the website of the US Senate. We demand that you immediately stop your efforts to initiate the withdrawal process, the senators wrote. In their opinion, the decision was made by US President Donald Trump bypassing certain procedures, in particular, without the necessary notification to the Senate in accordance with the National Defense Act. According to the news agency, the Open Skies Treaty, which unites more than 30 States, was signed in 1992. The US leadership announced its withdrawal from the agreement on the pretext that Russia was allegedly not fulfilling its obligations.
