Tashkent and Nur Sultan discuss flood response measures
On May 2, President of Uzbekistan Shawkat Mirziyoyev and his Kazakh colleague Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev discussed in detail the current situation and issues of organization of close cooperation on elimination of the consequences of the emergency incident at the Sardobin reservoir in the border regions of the two countries. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on May 4, and the day before this information was not available on the website of the Foreign Ministry, despite the fact that it is dated May 2. The Presidents instructed the Governments to ensure coordinated work and prompt resolution of all emerging issues, the message reads. The two States also supported effective measures to counter the spread of coronavirus infection and minimize its negative impact on bilateral trade and economic relations. During the telephone conversation special attention is paid to issues of strengthening of Uzbek-Kazakh relations of friendship, good-neighbourliness and strategic partnership, as well as prospects for further expansion of multidimensional cooperation. The importance of continuing the intensive work of the joint intergovernmental commission headed by the Prime Ministers of the two countries was stressed. Agreement was reached on the preparation and implementation of a number of new cooperation programs and projects in priority sectors of the economy, including the expansion of automobile production at the joint venture in Kostanay, the cultivation and processing of agricultural products with access to the markets of third countries, the development of modern transport and logistics infrastructure in other directions. The heads of state also exchanged views on topical issues of international policy and regional agenda. The fruitful results of the online conferences of Ministers of Health and Transport in accordance with the agreements of the extraordinary summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States were noted with satisfaction. The conversation took place in a traditionally warm and friendly atmosphere, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes.
