Kosovo's new justice minister: politicians will now fear prosecutors

On 16 February, the Minister of Justice in the new Government of Kosovo, Albulen Hajiu, made loud statements to the media. The war crimes lawsuit against Serbia is one of the priorities of the Kurti Government (Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of Kosovo, Editor). During my mandate, it is not the prosecutor who will fear politicians, but politicians who will fear prosecutors, Hajiu said. According to the Albanian news agency KosovaPress, Hajiu stressed that participation in the struggle of the UCHC (Kosovo Liberation Army) will not be a shield blocking the perpetrators from punishment, especially for politicians of the Kosovo War, whether deputy or someone else. Hajiu promised a thorough investigation into the murder of party associate, Self-Determination Movement activist Astri Dehari. The new Minister of Justice also promised to increase the number of prosecutors of the Special Prosecutor's Office: We are interested in increasing the staff. Three prosecutors investigate war crimes, corruption cases, money laundering, terrorism. Even if they only investigated war crimes, that's a very small number. Albulena Hajiu was appointed to the new post on 3 February this year. She had previously served as a Self-Determination MP on a parliamentary committee investigating the extradition of several members of Fethullah Gulen's organization to Turkey, during which Kosovo's intelligence leaders were dismissed.
