Georgian Dream awaits response to proposed compromise - Kobakhidze

In the ruling party, the Georgian Dream is waiting for a response from the opposition to the proposal to change the voting pattern in the upcoming parliamentary elections. This was announced on February 5 by the ex-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, the agency InterpressNews reports. The Party of Power proposed to reduce the number of seats in Parliament, intended for deputies elected in majority districts from 73 to 50, and to increase the number of seats for deputies on party lists from 77 to 100. This compromise was proposed in response to the opposition 's demand to abandon the majorators altogether. We have submitted a proposal for 100/50 and are waiting for a response. The continuation of the consultations will depend on what the opposition 's response will be, Kobakhidze said. As the news agency reported, opposition parties demand a shift to a proportional voting scheme. They refused to participate in the spring parliamentary session that opened on 4 February and chose to organize a corridor of shame near Parliament.
